We've been publishing The Optional Stop
newsletter since 1990. In its original form it was a
printed newsletter and sent by bulk U.S. Mail. In the
Winter of 2001, we stopped sending this newsletter by
mail (remember the Anthrax mail scare? We received many
cancellation requests during this time.). Instead, we
started posted it on our website in a down-loadable
(Adobe Acrobat) format, and expected people to come to
our website to download it. These
past issues are still
available for downloading from the bottom of this page.
We have received many emails from
people saying they forget to come and download The
Optional Stop from our website. Indeed, we think most
people thought we just stopped publishing it. People
were asking if we could email the newsletter to them.
Due to the amount of spam people receive, we were
reluctant to email it. But with all the requests we've
received, we decided to do comply. And based upon the
positive responses we've been receiving so far, we're
glad we did!
Note that we've changed the focus a little.
In the past, this newsletter has been dedicated solely
to helping CNC users. We're now expanding the
focus to include CNC educators - including
instructors that teach live CNC classes and
managers/Human resources people that are educating
their personnel.
This new format should provide some unique
benefits. Since it's in email format, and since we're
using HTML (web page language), we'll be able to include
links to Internet sites that, when clicked, will
automatically invoke your browser and bring up the web
page in question - all right from within your email
software.
Do you want to be added to the email
distribution list?
We will still maintain each new issue
(along with past issues back to issue fifty) on this
page , so you can still come to our site and
view/print it. But if you wish to have each new
issue of this newsletter emailed to you, simply
email us, choosing "Add me to the distribution
list for The Optional Stop newsletter" as your
reason for the email.
If you request to be added to our
distribution list, do remember to update
your spam filter to allow email from lynch@cncci.com.
We receive many emails back as undeliverable, and
part of the reason is related to spam filters. We
don't want you to think we ignored your request to
be added.
When will each issue be sent?
The Optional Stop is published
quarterly with each change in season. You’ll be
receiving it near the first day of each new season
(about March 20, June20, September 20, and December
20).
What is the content of this
newsletter?
The Optional Stop newsletter is filled
with tips and shortcuts for CNC users and educators.
Techniques are aimed at reducing setup and cycle
time, making programs shorter and easier to write,
improving quality, holding tighter tolerances, and
in general, anything that will help CNC users make
better use of their machines. We'll also be
providing tips for teaching CNC courses and helping
managers provide training for their personnel.
Ideas and comments welcomed
If you have a technique or idea that you'd
like to share with others, submit your idea using our
tip submission form or by mail to CNC Concepts,
Inc., 44 Little Cahill Road, Cary, IL 60013. We'll
